In the 1950’s the Village of Jánovas in the Spanish Aragon Region of the Pyrenees was forcibly evacuated to clear the area for a new dam. The inhabitants were subjected to a reign of terror, they went as far as throwing bombs on houses with people still living inside them.
People tried to stand up to all the terror but failed, and even though the dam was not even there and plans hadn’t been accepted, the people were still forced to leave their homes. The dam was started but never completed and the army was sent in to render the village uninhabitable to stop the residents from returning. The village still stands abandoned today.
This village is so quiet, I couldn’t shake the feeling that what had been done here was just inhumane and unjust..
